8 simple things I wish I’d known about delivering private yoga sessions:
•Some clients want to talk more than do, there are many reasons for this and it’s perfectly ok
•Some clients want to do more than talk, there are many reasons for this and its perfectly ok
•This may be the only time they can carve out for themselves whether its to learn or be led, to find movement or stillness.Respect this, their time and costs by keeping your attention with them. Solely and entirely.
• Learn about what is important to your clients and learn when and what not to ask after. An innocent enquiry to be polite can be triggering or steal their peace.
•You can be creative with sessions, approaches and methods and this will teach you both but remember it isnt a circus and you aren’t the entertaining clown, familiarity has benefits too. People dont listen to their favourite song on repeat wishing it was different, understanding when to utilise variety & repetition will help you improve immensely.
•Circumstances have changed for people the last few years particularly, childcare, shiftwork, elderly relatives- all impact sleep, function, MH- be sensitive to potential things you do not know about.
•Practise listening – and not interupting.
•What you thought your client needed may be different from what they actually need when they show up, prepare to change it.
