It’s quite easy to make someone physically exhausted.
It’s not impossible to set difficult physical feats or challenges.
Indeed these have an important place in health & movement but in YOGA there is a warped message in making a class physically tough then offering relaxation or savasana as a reward for our exertion.
Its stealth manipulation 101 – you feel good, a temporary high from the stress & survival hormones rushing through and of course from your good girl conditioning- being rewarded for hard labour and doing as you are told.
If yoga is a practice that was never meant to transform us, fix us or turn us into someone else…If yoga is a philosophy that tells us we were always enough exactly as we are then why are we perpetuating the archaic and patriarchal effort and reward system?
Surely an asana class should leave you feeling balanced not destroyed and the mind unshackled from problematic patterns not feeding them?
