It can look slick to have your own branded class or signature method, but sometimes that shiny box becomes a cage.
When you chain yourself to a fixed style, you lose the freedom to adapt, shift with evidence or simply meet people where they are — and yoga, at its heart, is about fluidity. Yes, when times are good and classes are full, it feels like proof that the signature style ‘works.’ But when numbers dip because life, economics, or priorities shift , does that mean your idea is failing?
Are you clinging to a sinking ship you accidentally drilled the hole in yourself? No one is making you do that. You could just teach yoga, unlabelled, alive, responsive. What are you truly gaining beyond appearances… and have you become a slave to the signature?”
5-Minute Reality Check:
Look at the yoga space around you — global brands, polished influencers, even local teachers. Reflect and ask yourself:
• Why am I struggling to let go of something in my business that might not be serving me anymore?
• Am I clinging to the look of success (branding, aesthetics, signature style) rather than the reality of what sustains me?
• If I weren’t influenced by what I see online – the big brands, the polished influencers, the local competition – what would I actually choose to teach, and to whom?
• Am I chasing the hardest demographic, instead of leaning into the groups who have the time, resources and interest to commit?
