What Fashion’s Trunk Shows Can Teach Us About the Future of Movement Education
Fashion brands are seeing a resurgence in invitation only trunk shows. If you’ve never heard of one, they’re small, intimate events where a designer presents their collection in person to a select group of customers.
Rather than browsing online, people get to meet the founder, hear the story behind the collection, ask questions and experience the brand firsthand as it was designed to land, with nuance, passion, explanation and context.
In a world where we can buy almost anything online, why are people choosing to leave the house?
The answer isn’t clothes.
It’s connection. Authenticity. Curiosity, questions, opportunity. Who else is in the room? How can we collectively expand? First hand influence not viral snapshots.
We’ve never had more access to information. Online courses, webinars, podcasts, YouTube, social media and now AI can tell
us *almost anything.
So perhaps information isn’t what we’re missing.
Perhaps we’re missing the experience of learning with people. The collective growth mindset.
The conversations before a workshop starts. The questions you didn’t realise you had until someone else asked them. The live demonstrations. The laughter. The shared ‘ Ahhhhh’ moments.
Online learning is incredible. It makes education more accessible than ever, and it should never disappear.
Yet maybe, just maybe we’re beginning to realise that convenience isn’t the same as connection.
In an industry where everyone wants to be heard but no one wants to listen, perhaps the greatest luxury isn’t exclusive access.
