Is the current structure of yoga education just one more example of demanded obedience?
The guru structure of no questions asked, being told and then expected to follow blindly?
Updated quality education is executed WITH someone not TO someone – and should be a collaboration and application rather than a parroting of information that’s never really been questioned or checked.
Learning isn’t a passive process, it should be questioning, applying, reshaping and yes, critical thinking.
We simply don’t know enough about fascia to claim its more mystical qualities but we DO know enough evidence based research is available to categorically say that we aren’t affecting it physically in the way we once thought we were, despite massive names in yoga still selling yin trainings based on this.
Why is seeing a famous yoga teacher sell it taken as a sure fact when the actual research studies show different information?
But that’s okay, we all once said twists detoxify the body, hamstrings get longer with stretching and headstands reverse the flow of blood.
Change isn’t a threat and the practice of Yin still stands beautifully without the fascia fables.
So why DO we object so strongly to this fascia change and hold on so tightly?
Where has the yoga gone in yin?
Ultimately we can be passengers in this culture of yoga education or drivers.
Ready to take the wheel?
Not sure how to do it?
I’ve done it for you here in an inquisitive and enquiry based approach for you to self pace and rely, refresh. See my CPD page, Finding The Yoga In Yin.
Other names to look at are Greg Lehan, The Better Clinician Project, Aaron Kubel, Adam Meakins, Daniel Williams- they will lead you to more.
The online world is a very noisy place and a lot of information will be quite loud and click bait based.
For every person I send you there will be institutes telling you just the opposite like many Yin yoga trainings. A good rule if thum that I use is, are they trying to sell me something based on Yin, or in the physio space are they trying to sell me something based on fascia, like their courses or equipment? If they have no axe to grind, I will weigh up what they are saying.
